Hellooooooo. It’s pretty much been the longest month of my life. This spring was supposed to “fly by” and I was supposed to be moving upstate “before I even know it.” That has not been the case! Here’s what I ate/watched/did/bought/wore this month:
I spent a decent amount of time this month in an actual office, and I leaned hard into the “Severance” element of the workplace by listening to this all day long. Not sure if I can recommend it. Makes you feel a little crazy.
Liam and I tried out the new Radio Bakery in Prospect Heights, which was good but not worth the line, obviously. It’s been a very long time since I’ve braved a stupid NYC line and I learned my lesson. I got this pretzel-y cheese-y pastry which was good but like, at what cost?
I saw “Oh Mary!” for the third time, this time with Tituss Burgess as Mary, who was fantastic. The wig work!
Since I’m moving to the sticks and am anticipating to live a kind of outdoorsey/horsey/all-weather existence, I decided to get a Barbour jacket. I will be shocked when I get up there and the weather is not like, English countryside all the time. That’s the weather I’m preparing for! I got the jacket off eBay, from one of the Alexa Chung collabs. It’s a very very nice jacket and I hope for it to age very well.
While trying to keep my morale at the office (I am a homebody) I watched a lot of the Big Bear Bald Eagle Livestream. I would do anything for those little baby eagles.
The best movie I watched this month was “Notes on a Scandal,” which I knew nothing about going in, except that Cate Blanchett was in it. Judi Dench playing an absolute nut case!!! Sometimes you just need to watch two ladies act their little faces off.
While I was in the office and needing to buy lunch every day, I did a survey of all the quiche in the Greenwich Village area. The best was Mah-Ze Dahr, the worst was Maman. Breads Bakery quiche was ok too.
I’m working on a 1970s medieval revival fairytale inspired font for my type design class so I had to listen to a lot of Donovan to make that happen. He brings the mystical Scottish pagan energy I need to inspire me to finish all my diacritics.
In anticipation of summer, I am preparing my summer wardrobe (vintage Ralph Lauren button downs and pajama pants) with a little flair by embroidering on the shirts. I found some vintage embroidery patterns on Etsy and got to work while watching Youtube videos.
Having a whole house I get to fill up has turned me into a crazy shopping monster. I bought three 6x9’ rugs from the Cold Picnic sample sale (think of the savings!!!), and I won’t even be able to unroll them until we get into our house. I have been officially cut off from home shopping.
I read this great article about some small time NYC crime drama. I used to walk by this Elvis every single day on my way to class when I lived on East 1st street. Justice for the Elvis-stealers! New York is so over!
Of course I’m watching “The Studio” on Apple TV. Do you think I would miss a prestige television show? It inspired my dream last night in which I told Catherine O’Hara how much I love her.
I was called to buy these Collina Strada x Puma shoes in order to fill a white sneaker hole in my wardrobe without buying something boring. Long-time appreciators of my wardrobe will notice their echoes of the UNIF Hellraiser loafers I wore in high school. They go with everything but they’re still a little freaky.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Dolly Parton/Linda Ronstadt/Emmylou Harris because I love beautiful harmonies. I think these are all covers, and not all of them hold up (there’s a ballad about a “hobo”) but their cover of “After the Gold Rush” is pretty much the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.
I finally bought myself a monitor for my laptop, after years of hemming and hawing about the (ridiculous) cost of the Apple one I really wanted. Well I got it and I love her more than I could have imagined. I can’t believe I was doing all this shit on my baby ass laptop all this time! It’s unimaginable. I’m stronger than the marines for that fr.
Byeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!
